Cash, Friend or Foe?

I have been listening to Dave Ramsey for quite some time, after some gentle urging from my husband to get on board with him and his financial outlook.

Now that we are on the same page, and working through our debt snowball (which will be finished by the end of 2013 with our current habits) I have decided that "hey, this guy really does know what he is talking about and I should put more faith into ALL of his ideas."

This all boiled to down to CASH.  I despise CASH.  I am nervous to carry it around with me, I feel like I should use it all right away, and I forget to actually use my change so after a while my purse weighs a few extra pounds ;)  I have gone to a cash only budget and quickly given up after running out of money within the first week.  Since I am more of a "I want it NOW" kind of girl my debit card has always come in handy during these moments.

Now that it is a new year I had this great idea that I should follow the principles laid before me and actually listen to Dave Ramsey (and my husband) when they tell me that if I use cash, and only cash, when I am out shopping, that I will spend less.

It's been 9 days.  9 long days.  After-Christmas Sales, Spring Apparel Arriving Sales, Christmas Gift Cards (that don't cover the whole bill), the list goes on and on.  However, I have come to resist a few of the sales, I have stayed away from most stores, and I have only used gift cards that were going to expire or was buying something I actually wanted.  I have especially been staying away from the grocery store (how does food cost SO MUCH!?)...

Look at my pantry below and you will realize why I really should stay out of the grocery stores... there are only 1.5 of us (my husband travels overnight most days throughout the week so he is only 1/2 home)

Payday is now only 5 days away before I get my next allotment of cash to spend, and I have plenty to get me through!

I am so excited by my progress and I plan to stand firm, stay out of the stores and put my extra cash each period into a special fund so that I can splurge on some of our monthly dates that we plan to have throughout 2013!

A Week of Golf

In 2017 my team was tasked with exciting job of catering to the LPGA Marathon Classic for their week long golf tournament here in town.  We had less then 4 months to prepare, and we had never done anything on such a large scale before.  It was both exhilarating and terrifying, especially for an Enneagram 6 like me.  We are loyal and committed, but our biggest needs are security, and we fear not having the support and guidance needed.  What a way to walk into a task like this.   I was suddenly tasked with finding organizations to fill close to 200 shifts for concession stands, as well as around 75 employees to help me make this event a reality.  It took a lot of time, planning, questions, stress, and a roller coaster of emotions, but we did it!  It was amazing the feeling that you have after you accomplish something like that. Since then we have continued to receive this job each July, and each year has gotten a little easier.  We have ha...

YouData.com

Looking for a quick, easy way to make some extra money?  Check out YouData. It is not a huge money maker, but the pennies add up with time, and it is always nice to see a few extra cents get added into the budget, for something that you normally do on a daily basis...look at ads and watch commercials! Here is a copy of my referral email if you would like to join under my account (which I would be grateful for), or you can always visit the site on your own to sign up! I found something that I think you will like. The company's name is YouData ( youdata.com ). They are trying to convince consumers like us that we should be the ones controlling our own data and selling our own attention, not third parties like broadcasters, newspapers, and spammers. By creating a MeFile at YouData.com, I now control what ads I see and when I see them. Best part - I am selling my attention directly to interested advertisers, for real money. That's right, I get paid fo...

Small Celebrations

Did you celebrate Cinco de Mayo yesterday?  If so, awesome!  We did too!   If not, WHY NOT?!?! I don't drink anymore, but I can still celebrate. We didn't get to go anywhere, but we can still celebrate. Take every chance that you get right now to celebrate.  When life is a little "off" and things aren't as easy as they used to be, then we need to look for joy.  We need to find these reasons to celebrate, and as often as we can. Last night we ate Fajitas - chicken and beef - with guacamole, salsa, and all the toppings.  We drew our best verision of a Mariachi singer, and we sat together as a family.   Nothing over the top, nothing miraculous, but we laughed.  We smiled. We celebrated. What is something that you can celebrate today. The sunshine?  Getting a workout in?  Getting 10 workouts in a row done?  Not yelling at your child?  Even better.... your child doing their homework without you having to yell at...
