Dollars and Sense Sunday, 4

Now that I am back on the money saving train, and focusing on my long term goals and plans I am here to share one more tidbit that I find helpful. Don't always believe that "One Day Sales" won't be there tomorrow.  Whether they are in the same location or not is one thing, but to think that if you don't buy today you will never have another chance, is just a way to make money off of you. For today only....  we will offer you this $2,500.00 bedroom set for $999.00...   Remember to ask yourself, how much is it at another store? How much do I really  need it in the first place?  Am I absolutely in love with this model?  Do I then get the floor model with all of the scratches and other people jumping around on it? Usually if you have a sales person trying to pressure you in to a sale it is because they know that once you walk out the door and do your research that you will find something better, or less expensive, or both.  They need to make sur...

BzzAgent Sponsored - Garnier Fructis

I am currently working on a trial of Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner, that I was given through BzzAgent.com for a review. The package arrived, and I am pleasantly surprised by the scent, package, and all around product that I received.  My hair looks amazing in the sun, and the humidity has not been able to take its normal toll on my hair which would turn me into a frizz head! This is a product that I will definitely be purchasing the next time that I need to make a purchase of shampoo and conditioner!

So...this has become more of a monthly article then weekly. but here is another tip for you on the journey to saving money. When holiday shopping wait until the day after, or a few days after the holiday to purchase things that are sustainable for the next year.  Even though we do not have children I still like to have egg coloring kits around the house when we spend time with friends and family.  The best way to purchase this is a year in advance.  Yes, it may not be the next greatest thing out there, but it is still going to do the job - at a fraction of the price!  Easter baskets do not change much from year to year, and you can always get plastic eggs to plan ahead for next year's Easter Egg Hunt! Halloween is another great example. I purchase costumes (for my cats) after they go on clearance to 70% - 90% off the original price.  This allows us to take part in the holiday, have some fun, but not spend a crazy amount of money. And at every holiday I ...

I have obviously missed a few weeks, but I am back with another money saving tip! USE CASH! Cash is such a powerful tool, and you don't realize how out of touch you are with your budget, until you actually get cash out of your wallet to spend! I always thought that I had a good handle on my spending, and that using my debit card was just like using cash, until I agreed to only using cash to pay for food, gas, shopping, and any incidentals.  All I can say is...WOW! The first month I realized that I was able to get by with my less when I actually had to spend cash for it.   My lattes in the morning from Starbucks could be used more as a treat then a necessity.... work has really good coffee, for Free. I didn't need ANOTHER black shirt... there are 4 sitting in my closet that look almost identical to this one. Chicken is on sale, for a really good price, but I have more then enough in the freezer for the next 2 months worth of meals. When I have my debit...

Happy Sunday!  Today the new sale ads come out, coupons become available, and blog posts are lined with the best savings and coupons pairing around the area.  Today is the day that you have to remember the most important rule of saving money.... If you purchase something that you didn't need, just because it is on sale, does NOT mean you are saving money.  This has been something that my husband has been reminding me since I started on my money saving journey.   Please remember that stock piles are wonderful, for items that you use, or can use, but to purchase 20 cans of peas because they were only $0.10 each, but no one in your family eats them is just like throwing $2.00 out the window.   You also have to remember that when you see sale items from WalGreens, CVS, and Rite Aid showing that you can get your items free after rewards, remember that you are still paying cash, out of pocket for these items, and you are getting "Coupon Cash" to spend on y...
