My First Try - Apple Pie!

I am a little embarrassed to show you the finished product, so here is a shot of it just going into the oven!

This was my first half-way (store bought crust) homemade apple pie, and the taste turned out great, BUT it doesn't look so wonderful.  I left it in the oven just a few minutes too long and the edges of the crust are burnt.  Also, as you can see I had some issues rolling out the dough without it cracking, but no one noticed once we started eating!

I am going to try to make another pie for a Fall Party I am hosting this weekend, but I doubt between work and cleaning I will attempt to make my own crust, so it will be another half-way homemade pie, but I am ok admitting to that.

I do have to say that I found a new reason to love the apple-peeler that my husand bought me for Valentine's Day (romantic, huh?).  It cut the time of peeling, slicing, coring, AND cutting the apples down to a minute or two for 6 cup of apples with nothing else needed, except for this one great gadget!

Let me know if you have any other apple recipes that I should try, because I still have quite a few apples to work with and don't want them to go bad or be wasteful!

Giving Thanks, Day 13

Today I am thankful for trade shows and all of the fun stuff that vendors hand out to everyone for free! We had a trade show today for 55 companies in the area.  It was amazing all of the things that were handed out; movie passes, note pads, pens, hand sanitizer, etc.  The things that you can always use, but usually don't want to pay for. My favorite is always note pads.  I love all the different shapes and sizes, and it helps to give me the motivation to start new lists and gives me the goal to work all the way through the stack of paper, before getting bored or moving on to a new idea or set of projects. What kinds of things do you like to get for free?!

Learning about Catering, and Myself!

Last week I was in Las Vegas, attending CaterSource Catering Convention. I learned so many things about myself, my work, and the people that I am surrounded by.  Some good and some bad, but all have helped me to realize more of what I want for my life. Over the last year I have realized how important it is to take the time to make these realizations.  I need to know the my strengths so I can keep them going.  I need to know my weaknesses so that I can work them.  I also need to know my goals.  Even if they are ever-changing goals, I still need to know them.  If I am walking through my days just hoping for the best then I never know if I get anywhere. I have realized that as much as I used to love doing surveys that I have now found them to tedious.  I would much rather be part of focus groups and interviews.  Not only do they make more money for my time investment, but they also do not take constant attention, whether it be daily or weekly. 8 Weeks Later....

I just realized that I fell off the face of the blog world 8 weeks ago!   I was finally starting to get back on track with organizing, cleaning, and work when I just forgot how to manage my time! Over the last weeks I have made so many memories, enjoyed so much time with family and friends, and traveled to Denver, Cub Lake, Cedar Point, and back home again!  I have celebrated my 4th Wedding Anniversary to the man of my dreams as well as my grandma's 80th Birthday!  I have welcomed a great nephew (Jerry) , an amazing 2nd cousin (Brock), and a beautiful little friend (Sirena) into the world!  And last, but not least, I have decided that I am perfectly at peace with my life, no matter what comes my way. Now that July is finally behind us and August is starting anew, so are my new hopes, dreams, and goals!  I will share them as they become closer to reality, and I have a plan of action on how to handle everything. For this month I am hoping to stop in at leas...
